The history of Wackerbarth Castle is closely linked to the Saxon court and the Dresden Baroque period. Count August Christoph von Wackerbarth had the baroque palace and gardens built between 1727 and 1730. Today, the castle is a popular destination for wine lovers and culture enthusiasts. The Saxon Elbe Valley, one of the smallest wine regions in Germany, is known for its steep slopes and terraced vineyards. These cultural and historical monuments form the basis for the region's elegant wines. Schloss Wackerbarth cultivates 90 hectares of “cool climate” wines that delight with their complexity and finesse, including Riesling, Müller-Thurgau and the unique Goldriesling.

Every year, Schloss Wackerbarth welcomes over 220,000 guests who discover the secrets of wine and sparkling wine production and can experience the pleasure of Saxon wine and sparkling wine with all their senses. The vineyard in the baroque ensemble invites you to enjoy exquisite moments of pleasure, be it at the sparkling wine spring, wine summer or “Wine & Light”.

A particular highlight is the Belvedere, the landmark of Schloss Wackerbarth. Located directly on the vineyard, it offers a breathtaking view of the entire estate. The octagonal building with its tent roof, dome and lantern is a popular venue for celebrations and receptions. Couples can even get married here in a civil ceremony and experience the most beautiful day of their lives in an incomparable ambience.

Schloss Wackerbarth is Europe's first adventure winery and at the same time continues the tradition of one of the oldest sparkling wine cellars in Europe. The adventure winery stands for a unique ensemble of baroque castle and gardens, picturesque wine culture landscape and modern manufactory. The company follows the more than 850-year-old Saxon winegrowing tradition and the 180-year-old tradition of the Bussard sparkling wine cellar for sparkling wine production using classic bottle fermentation. The Saxon State Winery is committed to natural and sustainable viticulture and to safeguarding and promoting the Saxon wine culture landscape, including its steep slopes and terraced vineyards with around 23,000 m² of listed walls. The winery draws attention to Saxon wine and sparkling wine beyond the borders of the Elbe Valley and invites visitors to explore the Saxon Wine Route. Every year, Schloss Wackerbarth introduces around 190,000 visitors to the delights of Saxony with all their senses. In 2010, the German Wine Institute (DWI) recognized Schloss Wackerbarth as the “Highlight of Wine Culture”, and in 2012, the view of the unique ensemble received the award for “Saxony's Most Beautiful Wine View”. In 2023, the winery was the first winery in the new federal states to be awarded the scientifically based “FairChoice” sustainability seal.
